Generation H₂O gives learners across Scotland the tools to protect their water supply. Designed for Scottish classrooms, the programme teaches students about water conservation in a way that connects to their local environment.
These interactive digital resources provide free, easy to use lessons for secondary school teachers, all carefully linked to the Curriculum for Excellence:

Making Waves Challenge
We’re inviting your students to take part in the 2025 Making Waves Challenge. Scotland’s water champions will be rewarded with the chance to win an inspiring visit from Scotland’s most decorated Olympian, Duncan Scott.

Global Water Project and Pitch for the Planet
Protecting water doesn’t just help Scotland, it helps the whole world too. Across two lessons, S1-S3 students explore global water supply and climate challenges, before designing and pitching a solution to one of Scotland’s water issues.
It’s perfect for teaching BGE Social Subjects, or to prepare students for N4 Geography or N4 Environmental Science. Each lesson can be taught individually or as part of a series.

Map Your Future
Map Your Future is an interactive career lesson for students aged 12-14. Designed to run across a 1-hour session, it helps students discover their skills and strengths, then see how they align with a future career.
It can be used for students learning BGE Health and Wellbeing, or as they approach Senior level subjects and their first work experience.

Request a Volunteer
A Scottish Water Volunteer could also visit your school, to answer your students’ questions about careers in water conservation and support your lesson.
Our Volunteers are employees trained to visit schools and share Generation H₂O‘s message. Register today to submit a request. Visits are subject to location and availability, but we do our best to accommodate all requests.

Making Waves Challenge
The Making Waves Challenge invites students to become eco-activists, leading the way and showing others how to protect Scotland’s water.
How to take part:
- Download and deliver the Global Water Project lesson
- Students create their campaign post – it could be a graphic, video or slogan.
- Send your submissions by 21st March 2025.*
