New Wave
New Wave education programme from Southern Water explores and celebrates all the ways we use water; shows how we can save more and empowers students to protect and value water for life.
All resources are free and have been designed to fit key geography, science and citizenship topics, with a regional focus on the South East and its local environment.
New Water Protectors Competition Coming Soon! (Primary)
Save the date! Southern Water are launching a brand-new competition coming soon. Get ready for a week-long, water-saving challenge that encourages pupils to make small behavioural changes to save water, while using a fun display toolkit to track and celebrate savings. Plus, there’s some exciting prizes to be won!
The competition runs until the end of June, perfectly timed to coincide with World Water Saving Week (May 13-19), but flexible enough to fit your schedule.
Pre-register now to receive the resources as soon as they land.
New Wave for Primary
Southern Water’s education programme provides free classroom resources to help pupils explore the importance of water for life and to build life-long habits to protect our vital waterways.
100% of teachers using our resources say their pupils have had a positive impact on attitudes and approaches to water-saving habits in school.
There are three different modules available:
1. Wastewater Quest
With direct links to the KS2 science curriculum, invite pupils to dive into Wastewater Quest and discover what happens to our water when it travels down the drain.
The FREE and fully resourced science lesson for upper KS2 explores mixtures and filtration by inviting pupils to create their own drain juice before carrying out a group filtration investigation.
“The children were absolutely enthused! They loved it to pieces, the joy on their faces and a lot of them didn’t actually realise they were being scientists.”
There’s also an interactive game show assembly for the whole of KS2 that takes pupils on an access all areas virtual tour of the sewer network, guided by young presenters through an interactive quest-style quiz.
2. Water Protectors
This whole-school assembly and an action-packed upper KS2 lesson, pupils train to become Water Protectors by learning to save water. A great addition to your geography or PSHE sustainability topic.
Resources include:
- Whole-school assembly
- Waste or Save playing cards to print off
- Lesson plan, presentation, and activity sheets
- Home pledge challenge resource
“I loved the local links and ‘real life’ science/geography contexts.”
3. Water Detectives
With direct links to the KS2 science & geography national curriculum, bring the water cycle and local waterways to life with a key environmental message.
Explore your local area on an interactive map to discover where your water comes, all while solving the case of the missing water drop.
“The lesson was highly engaging and informative. The children got so much out of it. Super fun! Lovely link to the local area. I can’t wait to run it again. Students loved the detective idea.”
