Generation H₂O gives young learners across Scotland the tools to protect their water supply. Designed for Scottish classrooms, the programme teaches children about water conservation in a way that connects to their local environment.
Carefully linked to the Curriculum for Excellence, the lessons contribute towards the Water topic in the Eco Schools Award and include:
- Every Droplet Counts: One hour lesson for P1-4
- Keep Scotland Flowing: Two lessons for P5-7
- NEW Make a Splash Challenge: Join the challenge to win a school trip
- Mission H₂O: school-wide assembly for P1-7

Make a Splash Challenge
We’re inviting your pupils to take part in the 2025 Make a Splash Challenge. Scotland’s water champions will be rewarded with the chance to WIN a splash-tastic class trip.

Every Droplet Counts
Age: P1-4
Every Droplet Counts is a one-hour lesson that gets pupils thinking about the water they use, with a hands-on activity that’ll make them appreciate every drop – even when it’s rain.

Keep Scotland Flowing
Age: P5-7
Bring the water cycle to life with a video-led journey for pupils aged 9-11. Across two lessons, characters Arthur and Flo explain how water changes state, then challenge pupils to create a campaign to protect Scotland’s water.

Mission H₂O
Age: P1-7
Make a splash with a playful and interdisciplinary water-saving challenge for P1-P7. Kick things off with an all-school assembly about using water sustainably, before pupils compete to complete water tasks all week.

Request a volunteer
A Scottish Water volunteer could also visit your school, to answer your pupils’ questions about saving water and support your lesson.
Our volunteers are employees trained to visit schools and share Generation H₂O’s message. Register today to submit a request. Visits are subject to location and availability, but we do our best to accommodate all requests.

The Make a Splash Challenge invites pupils to become eco-heroes by showing others how to keep Scotland’s water safe and clean for everyone.
How to take part:
- Download and deliver the Keep Scotland Flowing lesson
- Pupils design their campaign posters and raise awareness!
- Send your class posters to us by 30th April 2025
