Scottish Water Generation H₂O – Primary
Welcome to Scottish Water Generation H₂O – a new education initiative empowering young people to take positive action and protect one of Scotland’s most precious resources: water.
Register to download our two free educational resources: Keep Scotland Flowing for learners aged 9-11 (P5-7) and Mission H₂O for learners aged 5-11 (P1-7). These fully resourced, interactive lessons bring the water cycle to life while supporting the Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes across Sciences, Social Studies, Technologies, and Health and Wellbeing. They’re also a great way to contribute towards the Water topic in your Eco Schools Award.
Keep Scotland Flowing
Keep Scotland Flowing is a new dynamic educational resource that introduces learners aged 9-11 (P5-7) to the water cycle and how we all play a role in protecting water.
The activities take learners on an interactive journey through the water cycle, challenging them to explore what happens to water and how they can actively preserve it. Learners then use this new knowledge to create a campaign to encourage behaviour change in others.
Free downloadable resources include:
- Teachers’ Guide – comprehensive, easy-to-use lesson instructions, and info on how these lessons link to Curriculum for Excellence.
- Interactive Lesson Presentations – characters Flo and Arthur take learners on a journey through the water cycle.
- Homework Tasks – learners observe and document the water cycle in their local area.
- Campaign Planning Sheets – to inspire learners to create their own powerful water campaign.
Mission H₂O
Mission H₂O offers a whole school approach to sustainability with fun, hands-on challenges for learners aged 5-11 (P1-7). It kicks off with a school-wide assembly before learners embark on a series of water-themed challenges at home and school. The mission ends with a celebration and the chance to win a prize!*
Free downloadable resources include:
- Mission H₂O Assembly Launch – a ready-made, engaging presentation to set the whole school on the mission.
- Teachers’ Guide – explains all the challenges and how to take part in them, plus extra STEM activities.
- Challenges and Scorecard – a worksheet with simple challenges and a page to track the total.
- Prize Submission Form – to enter your class/school for Mission H₂O prizes.
To reward pupils’ efforts, we’ll give the class that completes the most Mission H₂O challenges within their school, seed packets (the first 50 schools to register). Plus, the top 5 schools in Scotland will win a water butt. *See the terms and conditions.
