A fun and engaging interactive storybook aimed at pupils working at Early and First Level, this brand-new resource developed with local teachers encourages exploration of key STEM concepts and careers. Pupils meet Vaila, a 7-year-old girl from Shetland, and join her on her adventure as she learns about electricity and wind power all while meeting lots of colourful characters along the way.
By registering now you’ll be the first to have access to a brilliant education resource that links key Curriculum for Excellence science learning objectives with the science of wind power and renewable energy.
Pupils will…
- Identify how wind can affect the world around us
- Explain how electricity is used in their home and the world around them
- Explore how wind turbines use the energy from the wind to generate electricity
It’s STEM-focused learning that’ll educate, inspire, and entertain.
What’s included?

Vaila’s Windy Day Competition
Download the competition leaflet now to enter the exciting competition for Nursery/P1 and P2-4 and win an anemometer for your school! The competition is split into 2 categories:
Nursery/P1:
Use the template to tell us about your windy day. Draw a picture of something that is
affected by the wind e.g., the trees blowing in the wind or a windsurfer out on the waves.
Think about how you can show the movement the wind creates in your drawing.
P2-4:
Use the template to draw and write about the different things wind does for us. Think about
how you can show the benefits of the wind in your drawing then add some sentences to
explain further.
The winning student from each school will get their very own anemometer to measure wind speed and direction which is a great addition to any school weather station. There’s an anemometer up for grabs for one winning student at every school in Shetland so don’t miss out on this opportunity!
The competition closes on Friday the 4th November 2022. Full T&C’s can be read here.
