Introducing ‘The Edit: Be the change, shape it – Sky and Adobe have joined forces to inspire young people to take part in a digital storytelling challenge. Students will create a short report, with winning entrant to be featured on Sky News, using Sky footage and Adobe editing tools. They will learn about the different roles involved in the whole production process, receiving tips from Sky experts while developing key media literacy skills. The Edit challenges participants to create a 90 second (primary) or 120 second (secondary) news report raising awareness of a topic and communicating an idea.
Sky in partnership with Adobe are proud to offer The Edit challenge subject to the following terms and conditions. References to “you” and “your” or “Group Leader” means you as the prospective Registered teacher/account holder.
Eligibility
The Edit challenge is aimed at young people 8-18, based within the UK.
Registration is open to the following organisations and individuals within the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland:
- primary, secondary and special schools
Ineligible participants include:
- Employees or independent contractors, officers, or directors of Adobe, Sky or We are Futures, or any of their agents, representatives, advertising, promotion, publicity and fulfillment agencies, legal advisors, successors and assigns, and any other company or person that is involved with the production, design, execution, administration or distribution of this Promotion (collectively, the “Released Parties”), is eligible to enter or win.
- Anyone who lives with (whether or not related), or who is an immediate family member of, any one of the Released Parties (i.e., parents, siblings, children and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside).
- The Promotion is subject to all applicable federal, state, territorial, provincial, municipal and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Rules for Entry
- These terms and conditions apply to the ‘The Edit’ Competition. The Promoters are Sky Grant Way, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 5QD, Adobe 36-38 Market St, Maidenhead SL6 8AD, and AccessAbility Marketing trading name We are Futures (WaF) Ltd 1-2 Paris Garden, London, SE1 8ND.
- Entries to be submitted only by teachers, aged 18 or over, who have gained permission to share and upload their students’ videos to the Competition entry page.
- The competition is open to all Primary and Secondary schools in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland for pupils between the ages of 8-18 years excluding employees of the Promoter.
- Entry to the competition is free.
- Enter the competition by submitting entries by pupils from your school aged between 8-18 years. Entries should be submitted via the Competition entry page.
- The competition opens on Thursday the 22nd October at 09:00am and ends at midnight on Friday the 21st of May 2021. No entries will be accepted after this date.
Competition Entries
- There is no limit on the number of entries a school can submit, but only one entry can be submitted per student/team.
- Entrants can be submitted in a number of video formats including mp4, mov, avi.
- All schools entering the competition must have a registered account with WaF. This account:
- requires a member of staff in the school to provide their contact details.
- requires a member of staff to agree for any entries submitted by pupils to be potentially included as examples in future publications by the Promoter. WaF will contact the school should a school’s entry be selected for this reason and will discuss how the entry will be used. The promoters will not utilise any entries following the competition without the school’s full approval.
- Incomplete, illegible or corrupt entries, or those not in accordance with entry instructions, will not be accepted.
- No responsibility is accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. Proof of entry will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
- Entrants who do not give correct details or those who make an entry on someone else’s behalf will be disqualified.
- No entries from agents, third parties, organised groups or entries automatically generated by a computer will be accepted. Incomplete or illegible entries or those not in accordance with the entry instructions will not be accepted.
- In all cases entrants’ data will only be used for the purposes of administering this Promotion and for no other purpose (see Privacy Policy).

- Entries must not:
- Be violent, negative or/and discriminative of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group, profane or obscene;
- Promote or be about the use of illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons, and any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous, or any particular political agenda or message;
- Be offensive or be about hate;
- Defame, misrepresent or contain negative remarks about the Promoter or its products or other people, products or companies;
- Contain commercial names or trademarks owned by others or advertise or promote any brand or product of any kind, without permission, or contain any personal identification, such as license plate numbers, personal names, email addresses or street addresses;
- Contain copyrighted materials owned by others (including photographs, sculptures, paintings and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media or musical ‘samples’) without permission;
- Contain materials embodying photographs, footage or other indicia identifying any person, living or dead without permission;
- Communicate messages or images inconsistent with the positive images and/or goodwill to which Promoter wishes to associate;
- Depict, and cannot itself be in violation of any law.
- Any inappropriate or offensive material may be reported to the appropriate authorities.
- Entries will be automatically reviewed and moderated for content before being entered into the prize draw, however such review does not relieve you from responsibility for compliance with these Terms and Conditions. Any Entry that is found, at any time, not in compliance with these Terms and Conditions or that otherwise contain prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by the Promoter, in its sole discretion, will be disqualified. The Promoter shall have sole and final determination as to which entries are eligible to take part in this Promotion and no correspondence will be entered into.
Judging
- Entries will be judged using the following criteria:
- Entry is a news report of up to 90 seconds (primary), 120 seconds (secondary) (entries longer than this will not be eligible to win).
- Entry shows an awareness and understanding of climate change and its consequences.
- Entry presents an engaging idea to the audience to reduce carbon emission and #GoZero (Critical Problem Solving).
- Entry combines Sky footage with voice-over and original footage (optional) in a creative way (Creativity).
- Entry shows awareness of and communicates clearly to the audience (Communication).
- Entry uses editing skills to present a compelling narrative (Critical Thinking).
- Entry uses Adobe creative editing software and makes use of features such as titles, voice-over, graphics.
- Entries will be entered into a prize draw and two schools (one to be primary, one to be secondary) will win the lead prize.
- Lead primary school prize consisting of:
a) a Sky FYI News episode filmed at the school;
b) an inspiring on-site workshop (exact format to be determined by Sky);
c) a 12-month Adobe subscription (30 shared purchases) to the value of £760.32; and
d) a celebration event at Sky.
Lead Secondary Prize consisting of:
a) Sky sharing the school’s content on its channels;
b) an inspiring on-site workshop at Sky (exact format to be determined by Sky, dependent on COVID restrictions);
c) a 12-month Adobe subscription (500 named users) to the value of £2,526*; and
d) a celebration event at Sky (dependent on COVID restrictions).
Two runners up prizes consisting of a slot at Sky Academy Studios and a commendment certificate.
- The winners will be formally announced on week commencing 14th June 2021, the names of the winners will be available on request from this date.
- There are no cash or other prize alternatives available in whole or in part.
- The prizes may be subject to change. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute similar alternatives of equal or greater value or to remove a prize. Unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Promoter the prizes will only be awarded directly to the winners. Prizes cannot be sold or auctioned or otherwise transferred to a third party.
- The winning school may be required to participate in publicity arising from this competition including third party promotion (for example National Schools Partnership).
General
- By entering the Promotion, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the Promotion rules and consent to the transfer of their personal data to the Data Controller, for the purposes of the administration of this Promotion. All entry instructions form part of the rules.
- The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered as a result of entering this competition or accepting the prize. Nothing shall exclude the liability of the Promoter for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.
- Entry data will be used solely to administer the competition and entries will be destroyed in September 2021, following the winning schools claiming their prize.
- Teachers are required to provide their contact details in order to enter the competition on behalf of their class.
- The Promoters may in their absolute discretion modify, amend, cancel or suspend these terms and conditions at any time if they deem necessary or if circumstances arise beyond their control.
- The Promoters reserve the right in their absolute discretion to disqualify from this competition any entrant who they believe has not complied with these terms and conditions or acted in good faith.
- The Promoters reserve the right in their absolute discretion to revise to competition start and end date and extend the period for accepting entries for the competition.
- All promotion of entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter or arising out of the entrant’s involvement in the promotion will become the property of the Promoter on receipt or creation and will not be returned. By submitting your promotion entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:
- assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and
- waive all moral rights, in and to your promotion entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
- The promoters’ decisions are final in all matters relating to this promotion and no correspondence will be entered into.
- These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of England and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
* Retail Values (RVs) quoted represent the maximum retail price or, in the absence of a maximum retail price, the prevailing market price to the best of the Adobe’s knowledge. Differences in stated price and actual prize values (including differences in any stated price and the price a winner would have had to pay for such product in any jurisdiction) will not be awarded.
