Sky Ocean Rescue #PassOnPlastic Blog Competition Terms and Conditions (2019, United Kingdom)
- The competition is open to all UK secondary school students aged 11-16, whose school has been registered by their teacher for the Sky Ocean Rescue schools programme. It excludes Sky (UK) Limited employees’ immediate families (including their children), or anyone professionally connected with the promotion.
- No purchase necessary. Entry to the competition is free.
- Only one entry per pupil. Each pupil must obtain the permission of a teacher/carer/parent before entering the competition. Multiple entries made by the same person will not be accepted.
- Teachers of the entrants must read the SKY Privacy Policy – https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-privacy-and-cookies-notice to ensure that their pupils are eligible.
- The entry must be original material created by the pupil who has submitted the entry.
- Incomplete, illegal, misdirected or late entries will not be accepted. Proof of posting or sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Responsibility cannot be accepted for lost, damaged or delayed entries whether due to technical or connectivity problems or otherwise.
- To enter, entrants must write a blog entry of no more than 600 words, to let readers know about the issue of ocean plastic and what they can do about it. Entries may be typed or handwritten. Teachers must submit their pupils’ entries with a completed entry form for each individual entry. The entry form can be found online at: https://nationalschoolspartnership.com/initiatives/sky-ocean-rescue/ by logging into your National Schools Partnership account.

- Any entries containing any third party intellectual property without prior informed consent from the rights holder, or abusive, inappropriate, offensive or obscene language or imagery will be disqualified. Examples of language/images considered to be inappropriate, offensive or obscene, include (but are not limited to): any message/image which contains (a) swearing; (b) comments or actions which appear to be discriminatory of any person, company or group of individuals, for example comments of a racist, sexist or homophobic nature; (c) sexual innuendo, sexual language or sexual acts, actions or gestures; (d) promoting any illegal unlawful activity such as drug use; (e) any message that appears to be an advertisement or solicitation to buy; and (f) any materials (whether written or visual) that directly or indirectly relate to Sky competitor brands or that show any intention of promoting any brand other than Sky.
- Entries must be received between 09:00 BST on 24th JAN 2019 and 17.30 BST on 29th APRIL 2019.
- All entries to the competition will be judged by a judging panel composed of x 2 Sky representatives and x 1 educational representative, on the basis of the following criteria: (a) creativity; (b) interesting to real; (c) well thought out; (d) well written; (e) How well passion about the issue comes across in the writing; (f) how well the message comes across using their original voice. The judging panel will pick one winner and five runners-up based on the criteria stated above.
- ALL PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED ON CONDITION THAT WINNING SCHOOLS AGREE TO TAKE PART IN PUBLICITY REQUESTS AS APPROPRIATE. IF THIS CONDITION IS NOT MET BY THE WINNING SCHOOL/S, THE PRIZE WILL BE AWARDED TO ANOTHER ENTRANT THAT DOES AGREE TO THIS CONDITION.
- The winner will receive the following: (a) A VIP, trip for the winner’s class to the Sky Academy Studios in Osterley, London; (b) reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses up to the value of £1000 upon the production of VAT receipts/invoices for the date of the trip. (Please note – any expenses resulting from activity for the day that is not deemed as a reasonable expense will not be reimbursed); (c) Meeting special guest Emily Penn, a Sky Ocean Rescue campaigner and reporter; (d) The winner’s blog will be brought to life through an in-depth TV news report produced in state-of-the-art studios; (e) 40 Sky Ocean Rescue goody bags (including re-usable drinks bottle) and a USB copy of their final TV report; (f) Winner’s certificate.
- The five runners-up will each receive a certificate and Sky Ocean Rescue goody bags for themselves and their class.
- The schools of the winner and runners-ups will be notified by telephone or email before 17.30 on 3rd May 2019.
- If the prizes are accepted, the winner, the winner’s school and the five runners-up should allow up to 30 days from their date of acceptance of the prize(s), for delivery of such prize(s). The Promoter will organise the specifics of delivery of the winner’s prize with their school, with such delivery to be made at a mutually convenient time during the 30-day time-frame indicated herein.
- The Promoter shall own all the copyright and other intellectual property rights in the entries and any other materials (whether visual, oral or written) generated during the various stages of this competition, in perpetuity and on a worldwide basis for use at the Promoter’s sole discretion including, without limitation, use in advertising, other media, press releases, editorial and promotional activity, point of sale material, the Promoter’s websites, third party websites (including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube), newsletters and e-newsletters.
- Accordingly entrants assign to the Promoter any copyright and other intellectual property rights which exist in their participation in the Sky Ocean Rescue Blog competition, irrevocably waive any moral rights that could vest in them (which shall include their name, city and age) under the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988 or otherwise, and undertake to do all things necessary immediately on the Promoter’s request to effect or confirm any assignment in this paragraph.
- Entrants’ submissions, future submissions and quotes generated during any stage of the competition may be modified by the Promoter to fit in context with the content of the relevant usage, whilst maintaining the original sentiment.
- A list of the winner, runners-up and winning school can be obtained by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Promoter within 30 days of the closing date.
- The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- If a prize is declined or if the winner, runners-up or winning school forfeit their prize/s under these terms or conditions, then the judges may at their absolute discretion select alternative winners based on the criteria described above at point 10.
- The prizes are as stated, they are not transferable and there are no alternative prizes or cash substitutes. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize with one of like value in the event that the selected prize is unavailable for any reason whatsoever.
- Neither the Promoter nor agencies involved in this promotion may be liable to the winners, whether arising from tort including negligence, breach of contract or otherwise or for any loss or damage whatsoever caused by matters relating participation in this competition, or in relation to the prizes to the extent permissible by law.
- All personal details and/or information given in the entry form or otherwise must be truthful, accurate and in no way misleading.
- By entering this competition, entrants will be deemed to be bound by and have accepted these terms and conditions. The Promoter shall disqualify any entries that have failed to abide by the terms and conditions and/or are in breach of the terms and conditions.
- English law applies, and the English courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any proceedings in connection with this promotion.
