This free, inspirational learning resource uses the film Viceroys House to shine a light on the true story of the partition of India and enables students to develop key historical skill such as critical analysis of sources and debate skills and learn about local, regional and international governance as well as understand some of the effects partition had on millions of lives.
Use the power of cinema to help young people aged 11-18, to engage with the end of an empire and the complexities that led to the creation of modern India as it commemorates its 70th year of independence, and the birth of Pakistan.
The resource, designed for use in the history classroom includes:
- Teachers’ notes and curriculum link
- PowerPoint presentation featuring the film trailer, archive imagery and an interview wit the film’s director to engage students
- Quote cards to support an interactive activity
- Student handout to encourage young people to take action
