The Asda Stores Ltd (Asda) Plastic Investigators (PI) Club Spread the Word Competition invites all pupils at primary schools registered for the PI Club initiative to design and submit a poster telling people about the plastic waste problem and what they can do about it for the chance to win:
1st prize – A £1,000 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £20,000 to the school of the winning pupil
2nd Prize – A £500 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £10,000 to the school of the winning pupil
3rd Prize – A £250 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £5,000 to the school of the winning pupil
The cash prizes are for the school to spend on a project to promote sustainable living.
- Eligibility
1.1. The Asda PI Club Spread the Word Competition is open to all primary school children aged up to 11 years in the UK who attend a school that has registered for the Asda PI Club programme, except children of We are Futures employees and Asda Stores Limited colleagues who are directly involved with the Competition.
1.2. Pupils cannot send their entries direct to We are Futures, but must submit them to their school to submit on their behalf.
1.3. Only 1 entry per pupil is permitted. Schools can submit as many individual entries as it likes as long as those entries are from children within the age limit of 7-11 years old.
- Consent from Parent/Guardian
2.1. Asda will require written consent to be provided by the parent/guardian of any pupil wishing to enter the Competition, confirming that they consent to their child entering the Competition and for their child’s name and image to be used for publicity purposes if they are one of the winners or attend one of the winning schools. This consent section is included on the Entry Form and must be completed as part of the Entry Form. Failure to complete the consent section will mean that an entry will not be accepted for the Competition.
- How to Enter
3.1. The Competition will run from the point at which the competition leaflet is live on the National Schools Partnership website until 5pm on 24th July 2019 (the Closing Date). Any entries received after the Closing Date will not be considered.
3.2. To enter the Competition, pupils must design a poster on A4 size paper, and complete the Entry Form provided with their PI Club leaflet. Pupil’s parents/guardian must also complete the Consent section of the Entry Form. Completed forms and posters must then be submitted to the pupil’s school in time for them to submit all their pupils’ entries by the Closing Date.
3.3. Posters should:
3.3.1. Demonstrate a clear understanding of and facts about the plastic waste problem;
3.3.2. Give clear information about steps people can take to tackle the plastic waste problem; and
3.3.3. Include a catchy and memorable slogan to inspire people to take action.
3.4. Schools must collate all of their pupils’ entries and submit these by post to We are Futures, Asda PI (Plastic Investigators) Club, 1 Paris Garden, London, SE1 8ND or email to competitions@nationalschoolspartnership.com before the Closing Date.
- Judging and Winners
4.1. There are 26 regions involved in the Competition. Regions have been pre-determined by Asda, and details can be found at here.
4.2. All eligible entries will be initially judged by We are Futures, which will draw up a shortlist of 3 entries for each of the 26 regions.
4.3. All judging will take place by 30th August 2019. Each of the shortlisted regional entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by Asda. The panel will select 26 regional winners from the shortlist, 1 from each region.
4.4. The judges will then select 3 overall national winners from the 26 regional winners. National winners will be selected for 1st 2nd and 3rd
4.5. Entries will be judged on how well they meet the brief. The decision of the panel of judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
4.6. The Promoter and/or Asda will not consider any entries that it considers at its sole discretion to be inappropriate material (e.g. material which is defamatory, obscene or otherwise offensive), may breach or contravene any laws or that may compromise the integrity of the Competition or the reputation and brand of the Promoter or Asda.
4.7. Incorrect, incomplete, or illegal entries will not be accepted. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for lost, undelivered, delayed, damaged or mislaid entries, regardless of cause, including as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
4.8. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all entrants and disqualify any entry which is not in accordance with these Terms.
4.9. The Promoter will send the full names of the judges to anyone who requests this information by emailing competitions@nationalschoolspartnership.com
- Winner Notification and claiming a Prize
5.1. The regional winners and national first, second and third place individual winners and schools will be notified by email or telephone using the contact details provided on the Entry Form by 13th September 2019.
5.2. Individual winners must accept their prize within 14 days of being notified. On receipt of acceptance, prizes will be despatched within 14 days of being accepted.
5.3. Winning Schools must accept their prize by written confirmation to We are Futures using competitions@nationalschoolspartnership.com. School prizes will be awarded subject to the following conditions. Winning Schools must spend their prize money on an initiative to promote sustainable living across the school, its pupils or residents or businesses in their local community. The school must provide a written proposal to Asda setting out how they would like to invest the prize money within 60 days of being notified that they are a national winner. On acceptance of the proposal, the school’s prize will be dispatched within 28 days.
5.4. The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winning individuals and the winning schools. If an individual or school cannot be contacted by 27th September 2019 or if the prize is rejected, the prize will be forfeited and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to another individual and/or another school, as appropriate.
5.5. The Promoter will send the names and counties of winning individuals and schools to anyone who requests this by emailing competitions@nationalschoolspartnership.com
- The Prizes
6.1. Each of the 26 winning regional pupils will win a £100 Asda Gift Card.
6.2. The national winners’ prizes are as follows:
6.2.1. 1st prize – A £1,000 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £20,000 to the school of the winning pupil.
6.2.2. 2nd Prize – A £500 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £10,000 to the school of the winning pupil.
6.2.3. 3rd Prize – A £250 Asda Gift Card for the winning pupil, and a cheque for £5,000 to the school of the winning pupil
6.3. If the winning pupil moves up a year to a different school or changes school, the pupil will still be entitled to the prize. The school at which the pupil attended when they entered the Competition will be the rightful claimant of the school prize.
6.4. Winning individuals’ prizes can be spent on whatever the individual winner wants according to terms on the voucher.
6.5. Winning Schools must spend their money on an initiative to promote sustainable living across the school, its pupils or residents or businesses in their local community.
6.6. No alternative prize is available, and the prize is non-transferable and non-negotiable.
- Our Use of Personal Information
7.1. The Promoter’s Privacy Policy sets out how it uses personal information, how it maintains the security of that information, and your rights in relation to it. That policy can be found at www. com/privacy-policy but please note the following in relation to this competition:
7.1.1. Personal information provided to the Promoter relating to a school’s employees and participating pupils and their parents/guardians will be held and used by the Promoter, Asda or its agents and suppliers only for the purposes of administering the competition.
7.1.2. We will not send pupils, parents or guardians any direct marketing at all.
7.1.3. Personal information will be held for no longer than one year after selection of the competition winners. Personal information relating to the winning school(s)/pupil(s) will not be passed on to anyone other than Asda.
7.1.4. The Promoter and/or Asda may use personal information relating to a school’s employees and pupils to promote the competition, in any media including, without limitation, press, online and social media platforms.
7.1.5. The Promoter and/or Asda may use the name of the schools, the winning pupils and the region in which they’re located and/or any film or video recording featuring them to announce the winners of this Competition. This could be in any media (including without limitation, press, online and social media platforms).
- Limitation of Liability
8.1. The Promoter and/or Asda and its agents will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate anyone or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by their negligence or its agents or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
- Ownership of Competition Entries and Intellectual Property Rights
9.1. All entries submitted cannot be returned and are the property of Asda Stores Ltd and the Promoter.
9.2. Parents/guardians of the child confirm that:
9.2.1. Your child is the sole author of the entry to the Competition and that it is your child’s original work; and
9.2.2. Your child owns the copyright and any other intellectual property rights relating to your child’s entry; and
9.2.3. Your child has not licensed or disposed of any rights in any entry to the Competition; and
9.2.4. Asda may, but is not required to, make your child’s poster design available on its website and any other media and in connection with any publicity of the competition; and
9.2.5. you and/or your child agree to grant the Promoter and Asda a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the Competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the Competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes without further notice to you and/or your child, with or without attribution, and without the requirement of permission from or payment to you or any other person.
10. General
10.1. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude a school or an individual pupil from participating in the Competition.
10.2. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the Competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
10.3. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law. You can bring legal proceedings in respect of these terms in the English courts. If you live in Scotland, you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Scottish or the English courts.
